I strongly believe that professionalism is key to being an educator. It not only makes you confident, it depends respect from others. I have always maintained professionalism throughout my student teaching. I found it a necessity in the success of my teaching and I believe in any career field you need to hold a high form of professionalism. Especially as a student teacher in the community, I was representing my school all the time because staff, students, and parents could recognize me outside of school. Being a teacher makes you become more aware of your surroundings and more aware of your actions.
Inside the school and inside the classroom, I am representing myself and how I want others to treat me; which is with respect. It is important to always maintain professionalism through attitude and clothing. As a student teacher, I want to be treated fairly and it was necessary to respect others as well. I always wanted my students to have a positive attitude, so I made sure I had a positive attitude. I always wanted to be respectful to my students, so I made sure I was respectful to them.
"Ashley is highly professional. She comes to school early, stays late, and joins me on the weekend in order to be well prepared for our students. She is an excellent role model in the manner in which she dresses, speaks, and conducts herself. Also, Ashly has joined me outside the expected parameters of her responsibilities. She has attended a local reading council meeting, a board meeting, and a school carnival all on her own time." - Erin Donovan, 3rd grade
"Ashley is very professional and confident. She is well respected amongst the teaching staff. She sent home a letter to our classroom families with an introduction. Parents feel comfortable discussing their child’s progress with Ashley. She participated/assist during our spring parent/teacher conferences. She was professional during these conferences. She also communicates with volunteers and parents before and after school." - Melissa Polkinghorne, 1st grade
